What's news?

Yesterday and today virtually all major news outlets - CNN, USA Today, The New York Times - reported that US forces had almost captured Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

That's news?

What would be news is if we had indeed captured Abu Musab al-Zarqawi or Osama Ben Ladin. We didn't capture either of these men. This is not news, this is the reality of our everyday experience in Iraq and Afghanistan. So why did the White House leak this story?

Possibly to take the attention away from a legitimate report that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq; that, in fact, they were not secretly shipped into Syria and that Bush's rationale for invading Iraq in the first place was based upon pure fabrication.

Perhaps to take the attntion away from Bush's failed efforts - notwithstanding his partnership with Tom DeLay - to overhaul and privatize our Social Security system.

The bottom line is it is about time that the American people wake up to the press manipulation orchestrated by this administration.
